OCC Clear & Sheer Day 1

I am taking the new OCC class Clear & Sheer and am just now getting started. I was busy and haven't been able to get to the lessons.  Although this is Day 3 of the lessons, I am just getting to  Day 1 and it was was all about Attaching Vellum.  Now I LOVE the look of vellum and sometimes it is a challenge getting it on your card!

Using the Wplus9 Beautiful Bouquets: Ranunculus, I stamped in Versamark and then white heat embossed it on watercolor paper.  I used distress inks to watercolor the image.  I cut vellum into a flag shape and heat embossed the sentiment, from Wplus9 Strictly Sentiments (love this stamp set, such a pretty font) in Ranger Platinum embossing powder.  I folded the banner around the card front, attached it to the back and then added some sequins to the front.  I applied Ranger Multi Matte medium to the underside of the sequins on the vellum and attached it to the card front.   The vellum adds so much to a card and doesn't cover up what you want to showcase.

Lawnscaping Challenge #128

I decided to enter  Lawnscaping Challenge #128.   This challenge features a sketch which they haven't done in awhile.

When I saw the sketch I got an idea right away, and used the sketch pretty literally.

I had a scrap piece of woodgrain cardstock I had used on another card, so I just die cut it and used it here, then colored it with distress ink.  The background is cut twice, from Lawn Fawn's Forest Border die. The other images are from Lawn Fawn's Happy Trails, they are colored with copics and die cut with the corresponding dies.

I liked the way this turned out, reminded me of car trips we took when our kids were young.   I love car trips and  they were inexpensive and adventurous for the kids and we didn't go far, because we all know how kids are if in a car too long. :)

CAS(E) this Sketch #169

This is the sketch featured on the CAS(E) this Sketch challenge this week.

I changed my mind on the design of my card soooo many times, I was ready to give up!  I don't know why I was so indecisive. :)   Here is what I finally decided on.

I blended distress ink onto a piece of woodgrain cardstock and then rounded the corners.  Using a strip of vellum I attached the 'Smile', that had been die cut from black cardstock.  The flowers were stamped and fussy cut. I added an enamel dot to the center and Wink of Stella to the petals.

CAS(E) this Sketch #168

The CAS(E) this Sketch  challenge for this week features this sketch.

As soon as I saw the sketch I pretty much knew what I was going to make, it changed a bit but I ended up making this card. 

I die cut the card front and then blended  distress inks on the front.  I wrapped twine around the card front and then hooked the umbrella over it.  I used foam dots to attach the umbrella.  There is no stamping on this card, all die cuts!

Lawnscaping Challenge #127

Lawnscaping Challenge #127   is Beautiful Florals.

 One of my favorite cards designs are flowers, this is what I made.

I stamped the sunflower images in Versamark on water color paper and heat embossed with clear embossing powder.  I watercolored the images and the background.  I made some additional sunflower images but used white embossing powder, and then watercolored.  I cut them out and used foam squares to attach to the card front.  The sentiment is heat embossed with silver embossing powder on vellum and attached to the card front.  This card is a little smaller than usual, 4 x 5 1/4, because I wanted the images to extend over the card front, but be able to fit into an envelope.

Paper Smooches April Challenge

The Paper Smooches April 2016 Challenge is a Black/White with a Pop of Color Challenge.

I have always liked images that are black and white with just a bit of color.  Sooo of course, I was pretty interested in this challenge and created this card.

I used a stencil and tinted embossing paste to create the background on the card front. I stamped and then cut out the images.  I used foam squares to pop up the vase and then applied Wink of Stella and Ranger's Glossy Accents.  (I think you can see it a bit there  :) irl it looks pretty good. )  I heat embossed the sentiment in white on black cardstock and then mounted it on foam squares.

CAS(E) this Sketch #167

I have been so busy this week and this is the first time I have had any time at all to do some card making! Yay!

CAS(E) this Sketch #167 challenge features this sketch.

Even though this is a pretty simple sketch I was a little stumped by it.  I had some ideas, but after looking  at the cards that had already been entered into the challenge I realized that a lot of the ideas had already been created.  After looking through my dies, I found something that worked for me. Using Memory Box dies I die cut the branches and the birds, and then colored with Copics. 

I have been seeing cardinals in the backyard for a couple of weeks or so. Their color next to all the brown still around is so vivid, that I decided to try to recreate that scene.  Here's hoping it greens up soon, although yesterday we received 4" of snow!!  In April!!  I really can't wait for all the green to come back!
